Woman mauled to death by lions in Limpopo Posted on 9 February 2020 Police are investigating the case of a 21-year-old woman who was allegedly attacked and mauled to death by a pride of lions at a private Game Reserve near Bela-Bela, Limpopo. Limpopo police representative Moatshe Ngoepe told Jacaranda FM that the deceased was an employee of the game reserve, although her job title is unclear. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), police and medical emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. The woman was discovered outside a lion cage with critical injuries. “On arrival, they found the woman with severe injuries outside the cage. She was certified dead by the paramedics at the scene of crime,” says SAPS representative Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo. “The Preliminary Police investigations indicated that the deceased was performing her duties when she was attacked and killed by unknown number of lions. The deceased was identified as Swans Van Wyke.” Circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are yet unknown, investigations will continue.
