Lioness catches warthog in front of Kruger National Park visitors

Posted by David Henning on 28 June 2021

Last week, visitors to Kruger National Park were treated to a full sighting of a lioness as it was killing off an adult warthog, and Latest Signtings shared a video of the kill.

Warthogs can be quite aggressive especially around their young. Some adults weigh in at close to 100kg, and a barging warthog using its tusk for defence can deter predators such as big cats. It is for this reason that warthogs are usually attacked from behind.

The kill ended when the lioness was able to grasp the warthog’s throat, before bringing the warthog to the road in clear view for all the spectators.
