Lion surprises couple in Kgalagadi campsite during marriage proposal Posted by Taylah Strauss on 18 March 2022 A romantic bushveld engagement became even more memorable for a couple in the Kgalagadi when a lion strolled into their campsite. John Peiser recounted the thrilling tale of him and his now-wife Sandy’s trip back in 2021. On their first night camping, John heard a lion roar in the distance and decided that there would never be a more perfect moment to propose. Seconds after popping the question and she said yes, a male lion casually strolled into their Mapayathutlwa campsite. He kept his distance but made sure his presence was known by roaring. ‘We then continued with our braai. It was incredible to have lions intrude on the proposal,’ he told Latest Sightings. The very next evening, a lioness entered the campsite too. She spent some time exploring before laying down to rest. She left roughly an hour later.
