Impala lamb attacked by python, and then hyena

An unexpected sighting in Mombo Camp in the Okavango Delta, a Southern African python managed to successfully wrap itself around an impala lamb, until an opportunistic hyena tried to steal his kill.

Mike Sutherland who came across this incredible sighting, told LatestSightings: ‘We were on a morning game drive during the time of year when many animals like warthogs, impala and wildebeest have babies. The bush was alive!

‘There was a large herd of impala on the edge of the dry floodplain and a hyena walking in the distance. A python had slithered down from a large, fruited Bushwillow tree and camouflaged itself in the leaf litter. One unlucky young lamb stepped right over the snake and, in a flash, it had been caught.’

The opportunistic hyena came along, who was patient at first, trying to bite at the impala lamb to let it go, before deciding to pick up both the impala and the python.

The constant harassment by the hyena led the python to give up, and it slithered back to the trees. Watch the full sighting below.
