We start our seven day climb on Monday morning sharp

After a couple of days preparation here in Moshi and looking at our goal (Uhuru Peak) from the rooftop of the hotel we have been staying at, we watch as the sunset lights up the ice glaciers on the mountain and look in amazement at the size and beauty of this massive “koppie” we must climb. Well Monday we depart and start making our way up to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Our first day starts off with a 18km walk through the rainforest at the foot hill of Kili to an altitude of 3000m. On days two to four it is pretty much up all the way with loads of scrambling and steep ascents passing massive ice glaciers and a barren terrain. We depart for our summit climb in the middle of night on the morning of the 1 August and should make the summit between 4-6am for sunrise for those of you who might want a reason to have a champagne breakfast that morning…

Our route is the Manchame route and is one of the harder routes to the summit, so it’s going to be a challenge in so many ways, but we will raise to this challenge as we did to cycle 6000km from our home and to do it safely and have the learning experience of a lifetime… and we have.

So we have pedalled from South Africa to Tanzania and to the land of Kilimanjaro where on Monday morning we will start our summit to the Peak.

To our moms we love you lots and thank you for having a faith in your boys and of course a huge thanks to everyone the made this trip possible and have helped us on the road to Kilimanjaro…

Eight days till summit.
