World’s first craft beer airline has lift-off

Posted on 7 March 2019

Too often, travelling beer-lovers may find the aeroplane trolley offerings somewhat disappointing. The BrewDog brewery, which brought the world the first beer hotel, decided to create a quality beer that would taste great at more than 9,000 metres in the air.

The brewery recently organised a ‘BrewDog Airlines’ Boeing 767 to fly its crew and 10 competition winners from London Stansted Airport to Columbus, Ohio for an extensive tour of the Scottish Brewdog’s craft beer brewery in the States.

Co-founders of Brewdog, James Watt and Martin Dickie, were all set for their flight on 21 February, and even donned pilot outfits, blue BrewDog beer cans in hand, for their BrewDog Airlines invitation, but on the day of the plane’s maiden voyage, they safely handed the flying responsibilities to the sober captains.

Passengers and guests were various clients and sponsors of the brewery, or ‘Equity Punks’, so-named after the company’s first light-golden ‘caramalt’ beer, the Punk IPA.

En route to the US, the Punks enjoyed BrewDog entertainment, with a range of craft beers and beer-tastings. Cicerone hospitality-trained flight attendants were on board serving flyers BrewDog’s beer-inspired meals paired with the beverages.

To relax, guests settled down with custom BrewDog eye masks and blankets – a mini craft-beer festival in the sky.

‘And yes, there will be a trolley service, and yes, it will be stocked with beer,’ Watt and Dickie announced on their website.

It’s unknown when again there’ll be another BrewDog Airlines flight, but we’re sure this would be an absolutely incredible 14+ hours of flying.
