World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean 2022 Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 21 October 2022 On the 16th of October at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), in Kenya, the World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean 2022 winners were announced. Picture: World Travel Awards ‘World Travel Awards serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry,’ as it’s described on the World Travel Awards website. Every year countless travel and tourism industries are nominated and chosen by travel industry professionals as well as the public. The beautiful island nation of Mauritius was named the top destination to visit in the Indian Ocean. They also took home the titles of Indian Oceans’ leading wedding destination and most sustainable tourism destination, reports IOL. Kenya was awarded the much desired award of ‘Africa’s Leading Destination,’ Thanda Island won ‘Africa’s Leading Luxury Island,’ and Seychelles scored ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination.’ South Africa did us proud by snatching up a number of awards, such as Africa’s leading city destination and Africa’s Leading Festival & Event Destination 2022, among other categories as seen below: Africa’s leading Airport 2022: Cape Town International Airport Africa’s Leading City Destination 2022: Cape Town Africa’s Leading Luxury Train 2022: The Blue Train Africa’s Leading Private Game Reserve 2022: Shambala Private Game Reserve Africa’s Leading Safari Lodge 2022: Earth Lodge @ Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2022: Table Mountain The Grand Final Gala Ceremony for the World Travel Awards 2022 will be held on 11 November at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Oman. Africa has been nominated for several different categories.
