Western Cape’s Poortjieskloof Dam starts to fill up after 7 year drought Posted by Anita Froneman on 20 August 2021 Poortjieskloof Dam outside Montagu in the Western Cape is receiving water for the first time in seven years, reports Blitzgids. The page shared videos from residents showing the water coming in on Thursday, August 19. Poortjieskloof Dam in earlier years. Credit: Department of Water and Sanitation The dam, located in the Groot River, and built in1955 has a capacity of 9 800 000 kilolitres. It mainly serves for irrigation purposes, but has not been of much use to the community in recent years and farmers are overjoyed at the water coming in.
