Weather warning issued for parts of SA

A Yellow Level 2 weather warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Eastern Cape and the Free State for Monday, November 23.

Certain parts of the country has experienced unusually severe weather conditions last week. Upington was engulfed in a dust storm and Pietermaritzburg was battered by a massive hailstorm.

Weather warning issued for parts of SA

Residents in certain parts of the country can expect severe thunderstorms.

‘Thunderstorms that can lead to heavy downpours and large amounts of small hail that may result in flooding of susceptible low lying bridges and low lying settlement areas… can be expected over the south-eastern parts of Limpopo, the north-eastern parts of Mpumalanga the south-eastern parts of the Free State, the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, as well as the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal this afternoon,’ said the South African Weather Service.

The storms could lead to disruption to traffic, especially in the afternoon peak hours due to poor visibility, and strong winds that can cause structural damages to infrastructure can be expected.

Residents are urged to avoid using roads when possible. Remember to make sure pets have shelter.
