Victoria Falls City to install solar-powered streetlights Posted by David Henning on 23 August 2021 The city of Victoria falls is embarking on a project to light up its streets with help from the sun. The city will be installing solar-powered streetlights across town to ensure the safety of residents and tourists, which will avert human-wildlife conflicts, News Day reports. Victoria Falls City is regularly visited by marauding elephants and buffalos into the suburbs of the city, and even the central business district. They can cause havoc in vegetable gardens and can easily cause a severe injury, or even death. Streetlights have proved effective in mitigating human-life conflict, where the Assam province in India has used solar-powered lights on the border of the national park, where residents feared encountering tigers at night. An elephant outside a residential house in Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls mayor Somvelo Dlamini commented that the ‘council has embarked on the programme of installing solar streetlights in our city. We are working flat out to make sure our city is lit at night to reduce or avert animal-human conflict cases.
