Victoria, Australia exits lockdown coronavirus-free Posted by Anita Froneman on 26 October 2020 The Australian state of Victoria will ease tight lockdown restrictions from Wednesday, October 28 after the area recorded 0 new COVID-19 infections for the first time in four months as of Sunday, October 25. Victoria’s premier, Daniel Andrews announced on Monday that from midnight on Tuesday cafes, restaurants, bars and beauty services will reopen, residents will be able to leave their homes and the ban on alcohol sales will be lifted. The Australian state of Victoria will be heading out of lockdown on October 28. Andrews imposed a strict lockdown in early August, declaring a State of Disaster as infections were skyrocketing at a rate of over 700 new cases per day. The state’s borders were locked except for essential travel and residents were placed under a night time curfew. Social media erupted in cheers and joyful banter after his announcement. When imposing the strict lockdown, Andrews famously said that ‘no one will be getting on the beers with their mates,’ sparking mocking memes and even a musical remix on the internet much in the vein of Dlamini-Zuma’s ‘When people zol’ theatrics. During the press conference on Monday, a member of the media then asked Andrews if people will be allowed to ‘get onto the beers’ now to which he mischievously replied: ‘I doubt I’ll be having any beers tonight. I think I might reach up a little higher on the shelf.’ Picture: Unsplash Related Posts Cape Town’s sustainability: Leading the way in environmental initiatives 1 June 2023 As National Environmental Month commences in South Africa, Cape Town stands proudly at the forefront... read more Kapama to host Safari Guide of the Year Awards 2023 1 June 2023 Kapama Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit will host this year’s Safari Guide of the Year... read more Blood Lions relaunches for public viewing on YouTube 1 June 2023 Award-winning documentary feature film Blood Lions has been relaunched on YouTube for public viewing, creating... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
