Two South African hotels make World’s Top 100 Posted by Adrian Brown on 21 January 2019 Two luxury South African accommodation spots have made it onto a list of the Top 100 Hotels in the World created by Elite Traveller, an inflight magazine only available in the private jets of the exceptionally wealthy. The Top 100 featured hotels from 34 countries around the world. The hotels were La Residence in Franschhoek and the Singita Ebony Lodge in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and were chosen by the magazine’s team of travel experts. La Residence, located at the foothills of the Franschhoek Mountains, is surrounded by a thriving 30-acre vine area. The exclusive hotel has 11 suites for couples and five vineyard suites for families or larger groups. The rooms are surrounded by a thriving 30-acre vine area. Each room’s decor draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of sources, including the Maharaja’s Palace and the Palace of Versaille. There is a clear use of rich colours that represent a sense of royalty, from ruby reds to hints of gold. One of the opulent bedrooms on offer. No two rooms or suites are the same, each has their own unique flair with fine art and antiques located throughout. One of the opulent bedrooms available at the hotel. The bathrooms leave no doubt as to why La Residence was chosen, imbued with an atmosphere that is fit for a King or Queen. The bathrooms boast standalone bathtubs and an eclectic mix of furniture. Even the main dinning area offers a hit of British royalty with rustic elements and old fashion elegance. Deep colour palettes are seen throughout the hotel. We are not surprised that the Singita Ebony Lodge made it on the list either. Located in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve on the banks of the Sand River – it is a must-visit destination for locals and tourists wanting to experience a unique safari getaway. Dubbed as an ‘idyllic family retreat’, Singita Ebony Lodge combines the feel of a tented camp and a bush lodge, as guests are surrounded by nature and wide open spaces. The interior design of the rooms are inspired by local African tribal culture and the greater animal kingdom. The bedrooms are a cozy retreat that offer a hint of traditional African design. Singita Ebony Lodge is a beautiful mix of nature and trendy furniture. There are 12 exclusive suites, each having its own private plunge pool. In winter guests can enjoy the warmth from the open fireplaces in each room. The rooms welcome nature, allowing it to flow inside, as walls are replaced by canvas and glass to create a ‘tent-style’ site maximizing the view for guests. The bathroom at Singita Ebony Lodge. The camp has won multiple awards for its conservation programmes and stylish safari-inspired decoration. Guests are able to spot wildlife drinking at the nearby river from each deck.
