Turn your disappointments of 2020 into a tree in the Forest of Hope

It is safe to say that this year, in particular, has been filled with disappointments and heartache for people all around the world. Not only has the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the world’s economy, but we’ve also had to deal with devastating wildfires in California, social unrest, and locust swarms in East Africa, just to name a few.

With just a few weeks left of this year, Tourism New Zealand is looking to inject some much-needed positivity into 2020 with its 2021 Forest of Hope campaign.

Tourism New Zealand has started a campaign in which it is asking people from around the world to share their most disappointing moments of 2020. For each misfortune shared, individuals are invited to put a positive spin on their disappointing moments by donating a tree in the Forest of Hope. The idea behind the forest of hope is to create a space that represents hope and regrowth for the new year ahead, according to Travel and Leisure.

Tourism New Zealand has teamed up with conservation charity, Trees That Count, to launch the inspiring initiative.

‘Donated trees will be planted along the iconic Queenstown bike trail, in a reserve that is a world-class example of native regeneration and biodiversity restoration – and further north we’ll be adding to the wonder of the Waipoua Forest in Northland, where mighty Tāne Mahuta, New Zealand’s largest kauri tree and a tourism attraction himself, stands proudly,’ Trees That Count said on its website.

‘Our partnership with Tourism NZ will enable us to extend our optimism for the environment to audiences outside of New Zealand, with the message that native trees are part of our culture, wellbeing and future prosperity,’ said Trees That Count CEO Adele Fitzpatrick to Travel and Leisure.
