Three dads hike across UK for suicide awareness after losing daughters

Posted by David Henning on 26 September 2022

In 2021, 3 Dads Walking – literally, three dads walking – trekked over 300 miles (483 km) in the UK in order to raise funds for suicide prevention charity Papyrus, after they all lost their daughters to suicide.

The dads are often joined by people who want to keep them company for short distances.

This year, 3 Dads Walking are embarking on a 600-mile trek (965 km) by walking to the parliaments of the four nations of Great Britain. They started in Stormont in Northern Island on 9 September before heading through Scotland and Wales. They will end their challenge at Westminister, the home of the English Parliament, on 10 October.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for Britains under the age of 35, and the Prevention of Young Suicide (Papyrus) was founded in 1997 by a group of bereaved parents who had lost their children this way.

Papyrus works to support, equip, and engage with communities by raising awareness about suicide, which is known as a silent killer, or as the three dads put it: ‘something that happens to someone else’.
