Thinking Hut to develop world’s first 3D printed school in Madagascar

Posted on 3 February 2021

The world’s first 3D printed school will open in Madagascar. Non-profit organisation Thinking Huts plans to bring this to life.

Thinking Huts was created to create a space for children in Madagascar who otherwise would have gone their whole life without formal education.

The pilot 3D printed school will be built on the campus of Ecole de Management et d’Innovation Technologique (EMIT), a university located in Fianarantsoa, and will take in local Malagasy students.

The organisation said on its website that it ‘uses innovative, humanitarian-driven tech solutions to close the global opportunity gap.

‘We envision a future where quality education is accessible via 3D printed schools.’

The decision was between seven countries to receive the first 3D printed school and Madagascar was the first choice.

‘We considered seven countries for our first 3D printed school. Madagascar will be our pilot’s location based upon the need for education infrastructure, stable political outlook in an emerging economy, opportunity for growth, as well as renewable energy potential,’ the organisation said.

The school will be a beehive design, allowing multiple buildings to be attached, for music, libraries, arts and more. Each structure will have solar panels, walls and equipped with vertical farms. A pilot design can be found here.

‘Through sustainable design and innovation, we will build a brighter world where every student can go to school. Together we will close the global opportunity gap by increasing access to education,’ said Thinking Huts on Facebook.

Thank you @archdigest for telling our story & mission to build 3D printed schools
