These are the nastiest parts of an airplane cabin

Posted on 11 October 2020

As the country moved to Level 1 of the nationwide lockdown, more and more people will be embarking on flights. Despite airlines doing their best to ensure its airports and airplanes are as clean as possible, there are still certain aspects of an airplane that might be dirtier than you think.

A TikTok video by user Kat Kamalani, titled ‘The Nastiest Parts On a Plane From a Flight Attendant’ recently pointed out the most unhygienic parts of an airplane. The video begins with Kamalani pointing out one of the most common ‘dirty areas’ on a plane, that being the backseat pocket. She explains that flight attendants do indeed clean them out between flights, they don’t however sanitize them. ‘Think of all the dirty tissues, barf bags and garbage that has been in them.’ Kamalani said in her video.

The next part of the cabin Kamalani points out is the all important tray tables, where passengers place their food and drink orders. ‘I have seen so many parents use this as a changing table for their child’s diaper and then they put it in the back seat pocket,’ she explained.

In the next part of her video, Kamalani explains that the air vents located above each passenger are touched by thousands of people each year, advising passengers to wipe them down before touching them. She then goes on to claim that the safety guide cards found in the seat pockets don’t get sanitised, and are read by thousands of people to pass the time during a flight, so wipe them down if you plan on reading through them.

She ends off her video with advice for the airplane toilet, in which she urges travellers to ‘use a tissue to lock the door.’

Take a look at the entertaining, but also slightly worrying video below.
