The Eiffel Tower will be painted gold for 2024 Olympics Posted on 10 February 2021 The iconic Parisian landmark, the Eiffel Tower, will be painted a shade of gold for the Olympics that will be hosted in the French capital in 2024. The Eiffel Tower’s current 19 coats of paint will be removed and then recoated in a yellow-brown shade, similar to that of the colour Gustave Eiffel wanted. Eiffel’s company designed and constructed the world-renowned landmark. It took 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to construct the Eiffel Tower. Situated on the Champ de Mars, this will be the Eiffel Tower’s most substantial renovation in 130 years. ‘It’s going to give the Eiffel Tower a bit more of a gold hue than the color that we’re used to seeing, in time for the Olympic Games,’ said Patrick Branco Ruivo, the CEO of the company currently operating the tower. The wrought-iron lattice tower stands at 324m from tip to tail. The paint job is estimated to cost R878,837,400 ($60-million). The renovation began in 2019 with plans to be completed in 2022.
