Tears as the Karoo receives its best rainfall in a decade Posted by David Henning on 29 October 2021 Widespread rain has been falling over the interior parts of South Africa since 21 October 2021, bringing relief to many farmers. Storm Report SA stated that good rainfall is still predicted until Friday 30 October. According to Farmers Weekly, there are reports of 20mm to 79 mm over drought-stricken parts of the Karoo. These include Northern Cape Towns of Pofadder, Calvina, Victoria West, Loeriesfontein, Prieska and Beaufort West and Leeu Gamka. A Daily Maverick article reported that farmers in the Karoo were crying and singing as rain fell over the area, which has been under the grip of a severe drought. Below are scenes from Leeu Gamka as the rivers overflow and dams fill. Die boere in die Sentraal en Klein-Karoo is verheug oor die goeie reën wat hulle die afgelope 24 uur ontvang het. In the Klein Karoo, 41mm was recorded in Oudtshoorn and 57 mm in Ladismith. The rain was especially welcomed, where the Klein Karoo has been in the grip of a severe drought for several years. The rain was reported as some of the best the region has received in the past decade. Beaufort West received 50mm of rain, and the region residents were overjoyed, to say the least, with the amount of rainfall.
