Stream Stonehenge summer solstice event Posted on 15 May 2020 Each year, a summer solstice celebration takes place at the prehistoric Stonehenge. This year however, the solstice celebration will be streamed online. The organisation in charge of managing Stonehenge, English Heritage, announced the cancellation of the live event on social media, according to CNN. ‘For everyone’s safety and wellbeing, we’ve had to cancel this year’s summer solstice celebrations at Stonehenge. We know how special this occasion is to so many of you, and we’ll be live streaming it for free online.’ In the past, the event has seen myriads of people flock to Wiltshire in southwestern England for the event. In 2019, an estimated 10,000 people attended according to the BBC. While the event will be closed to visitors, those who were planning to attend aren’t out of luck entirely. A live stream version of the event will take place. English Heritage consulted with the druid and pagan community, in which this event is culturally significant, as well as with emergency services before deciding to cancel. The decision is also in line with the current ban on mass gatherings in the UK. The event usually takes place on 21 June, or near to this date. A link for the event is not yet available but to get your Stonehenge fix, visit the Stonehenge Skyscrape website here.
