South African campaigns chosen as UN Tourism Challenge finalists Posted by Anita Froneman on 12 October 2020 Three South African companies were chosen among the 10 finalists for their African branding campaigns as part of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Inspiration Africa Branding Challenge. The Challenge saw 150 submissions from all over the world pour in, with the aim to market Africa as a tourist destination to international travellers. The Golden Gate National Park. ‘Beyond COVID-19, the campaign aims to create a positive image of Africa as a tourism destination that support the efforts of individual countries and companies, tells the many positive stories about Africa and makes tourism a driver of development. To design an innovative and impactful branding campaign to position Africa on the wish list of international travellers,’ the UNWTO website reads. The three South African companies in the running are: Big Ambitions, with their campaign ‘Afrika Yetu,’ Creative Collective, with their campaign ‘Africa, the home of more,’ in collaboration with Kenya, and Grey Group with ‘Find yourself in Africa’. ‘African governments, like all those around the world, can also use this moment to shape new policies that improve social protection and pursue climate-friendly pathways,’ said António Guterres, UN Secretary-General. The winning proposal of the Challenge will be selected by Jury Members from CNN and UNWTO and will be announced on October 16. The benefits of winning the Challenge include being associated with the UNWTO Agenda for Africa, an invitation to form part of the UNWTO Innovation Network and potential matchmaking with partners to develop the proposal further.
