South African Airways to officially return to flying to Malawi Posted by Olerato Ramafsi on 14 February 2023 South African Airways have announced its plan to resume flying to Malawi on 16 March 2023. Ticket sales began on 6 February, with Malawi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently sharing the news via a Facebook update. According to the post, the resumption of the flight was announced by SAA CEO Professor John Lamola, during a meeting held with Her Excellency Malawi High Commissioner Stella Ndau at the Malawi High Commission in Pretoria. Challenges which previously prevented the route have been resolved, according to Professor Lamola. These included a restructuring, with one of the focus areas being the promotion of the African Continental Free Trade Area in the SADC region. Ndau commended SAA for its decision, saying it signified renewed confidence South African businesses have in the operating environment in Malawi. She also said the resumption of flights would improve the tourism and transport sectors. ‘We are excited about this development, which we believe will ensure that Malawi should remain one of the most affordable tourist destinations in the region. This will certainly complement the Government’s efforts to improve our economy,’ said Ndau. The flights will operate on Mondays and Thursdays, according to separate winter and summer schedules. The winter schedule will run from 16 March to 25 March 2023. The full schedule can be accessed here. Picture: Getaway Gallery Follow us on social media for more travel news, inspiration, and guides.
