South African Airways recalls aircraft Posted on 22 October 2019 Tags:SAA, South African Airways South African Airways has recalled some of its aircraft to undertake compliance verification following instruction to do so by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). The airline said in a statement that this decision follows an oversight inspection conducted by the SACAA at the airline’s maintenance subsidiary, South African Airways Technical. The grounding of these aircraft has led to four domestic flights being cancelled. Passengers that were scheduled to take those flights have been offered seats on alternative flights spread throughout the day. The airline will also operate flights later than usual to make up for the reduced number of operational aircraft. “SAA understands that the inspection conducted by SACAA was in accordance with its regulations and a necessary exercise to ensure compliance and safety and apologises for the inconvenience caused to its customers and passengers,” said spokesperson Tlali Tlali. The four flights, two between Joburg and Cape Town and two between Durban and Joburg, have all been reorganised and the airline has said they will keep passengers updated on any new developments. These cancellations come after the airline was accused of using fake parts in repairing some of its aircraft, an accusation the SAA board insists is untrue.
