Snow falls over the Maluti Mountains Posted on 13 May 2020 There’s nothing like snowfall to signal the onset of winter, in Lesotho that is. Perched 3,222m above sea level, nestled in the Maluti Mountains is where Southern Africa’s very own ski resort, Afriski, is situated. For the last few weeks Afriski has received autumn snowfall. The resort was transformed into a winter wonderland at the end of April, with over 10cm of snow falling over a number of days. Over the past few days, over 10cm of snow fell over Afriski and the mountain ranges surrounding the resort. A glimmer of hope for our winter season during these uncertain times. ❄️ Pic by Martin Schultz pic.twitter.com/oz4Gr8DkHz — AFRISKI (@SkiAfriski) April 30, 2020 Today [13 May] the resort received a light, midday sprinkle of snow and the video is exciting for those who have never seen snow fall in real life. The snow just keeps coming! A light sprinkling of snow is currently falling over the resort.https://t.co/hDLMyIr2Ze@SnowReportSA @News24 @GetawayMagazine @planetski @storm_sa @Lestimes @TheReporterLS @ewnupdates @_ArriveAlive pic.twitter.com/Pl5cHlO4jy — AFRISKI (@SkiAfriski) May 13, 2020 While Lesotho is on lockdown, the country has no reported cases of coronavirus.
