SA’s new e-visa system to launch this month

Posted on 5 November 2019

South Africa’s new e-visa system comes into effect this month, with Kenya being the first country to trial the system. The aim of the e-visa system is to attract investors and skilled people that are paramount to building the economy.

According to BusinessTech, the Department of Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza said that the pilot will be limited so that the capability of the system can be tested. ‘The pilot will be conducted with Kenya first at the OR Tambo and Lanseria airports. At the end of the month, we will evaluate the project and look at which other countries to expand the e-visa system to,’ said Qoza.

The system, according to Qoza, is efficient and user-friendly and that the application process will take roughly 20 minutes, so long as all the correct documents are ready to be submitted.

If a document is missing, applicants can return to the application process at a later time.
