Qantas soars to first place on Top Twenty Safest Airlines for 2023 list Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 9 January 2023 Qantas has topped the charts as the world’s safest airline for 2023. Airlineratings.com, ‘the world’s only airline safety, and product rating website,’ has just released the Top 20 Safest Airlines for 2023. These top-rated airlines are considered to be ‘standouts in the industry and are at the forefront of safety, innovation, and launching of new aircraft.’ Qantas is the oldest continuously operating airline in the world and was established over 100 years ago. It was kicked out of top place last year by Air New Zealand, but the team is happy to have regained its title for 2023. According to Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of Airlineratings.com, ‘the editors analyse crashes over five years, serious incidents over two years, audits from aviation’s governing bodies and lead associations, fleet age, expert analysis of pilot training, and COVID protocols in making their determinations. ‘However all airlines have incidents every day, and many are aircraft or engine manufacture issues, not airline operational problems. It is the way the flight crew handles these incidents that determines a good airline from an unsafe one.’ Following Qantas on the top 20 list, and taking up the top five spots, are Air New Zealand, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines.
