Qantas launches direct flights between Joburg and Perth

Australian airline, Qantas, announced that it would launch direct flights between Johannesburg and Perth three times a week.

This new route is supported by the Western Australian (WA) Government’s Reconnect WA package, the government initiative to ‘reengage the world once Western Australia transitions its border controls’.

This is the only direct service between South Africa and Western Australia, complementing the Qantas Johannesburg-Sydney schedule of four weekly flights.

The route will be launched on 1 November and will slash six hours from the fastest current travel time between Johannesburg and Perth, where passengers had to fly via Sydney.

‘There’s a big South African population that lives in Western Australia and this will be great for people travelling in both directions to see family and friends,’ commented Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.
