Pangolin attacked by leopard admitted to Johannesburg Wildlife Hospital Posted by Anita Froneman on 22 July 2022 A Temminck’s pangolin admitted to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital after a leopard attack turned out to be a former patient. ‘Artie had many small puncture wounds on his back legs (we suspect he was out feeding and was then grabbed by the leopard) and one deep penetrating wound to his hock (ankle) – more than likely from one of the leopard’s canines. Radiographs showed no fractures and it seems like the bite missed all the vital structures,’ the Hospital said. ‘He is healing well and is quite an active young man. Our ant population at the moment is rather scarce (mid- Winter and the lack of rain are contributing factors), and as such, we have asked Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre to assist in the rest of his healing process,’ the Hospital added. ‘He has previously spent time at Umoya and we are very grateful for their assistance. In the interim, we supplemented his feeds with EmerAidVet.’ Once he has made a full recovery he will be released again at an undisclosed location.
