Newborn sloth’s close call Posted by Anita Froneman on 5 March 2020 It’s not every day you come across a sloth in the wild, let alone one giving birth. A local guide happened to be at just the right place at the right time to witness a brown-throated sloth in Costa Rica being born. Steven Vela was ecstatic and filmed the process, when something even more unusual happened. The newborn almost took a nasty fall from the tree! Luckily, its umbilical chord was still attached and ultimately saved the young one’s life. The mother seemed unfazed, scooped it up and proceeded to clean it. Watch this incredible event: I just had a heart attack!!
