New York Botanical Garden offers online nature classes Posted by Anita Froneman on 30 April 2020 For all the negative aspects we’ve contended, the lockdown does seem to have its benefits too. Many places South Africans could once only dream to visit, are now fully accessible online. The wonder of technology means that no matter where you are, you can join in all the fun. The world-renowned New York Botanical Garden is now offering online classes via the video communication platform, Zoom. ‘During challenging times, the power of plants connects people and provides inspiration more than ever. While the Garden’s gates may be closed temporarily, our virtual gates are wide open,’ the Garden says on its website. Some of the classes include Spotlight on Bird Songs, Flower ID from A to Z, The Fundamentals of Gardening and a host of other interesting topics. This 250-acre garden is the largest in the United States and a National Historic Landmark. ‘In addition to the natural attributes… NYBG encompasses 50 specialty gardens and collections comprising more than one million plants,’ the website proclaims. Those interested in expanding their knowledge of nature can find a list of all the online classes and their fees here. There is also other fascinating content, like ‘Go on a Virtual Research Expedition’ on their homepage.
