New SA airline to be named by public, here’s your chance to be famous Posted by Anita Froneman on 21 September 2020 A brand new South African airline, owned by Kulula founder Gidon Novick and Global Aviation, is expected to launch in December 2020. What’s more, its name will be chosen from entries submitted by the public and the winner will receive a lofty prize including free travel with the airline. The new airline will start off with domestic flights. Their aircraft will be narrow-body, single-aisle and seat about 180 people, similar to the Boeing 737 or the Airbus A320, reports My Broadband. ‘Similar to the way Uber has transformed the point-to-point mobility, there is a huge opportunity for the airline industry to rethink its relationship with passengers and be more customer-obsessed,’ said Novick. ‘The pandemic has created a unique opportunity to start an airline that is not only dramatically more efficient but also inventive and creative by tapping into the unique talent that our country offers.’ ‘South Africa’s brand new airline, set to launch domestic flights later this year, has invited you to put your creativity to the test and suggest a name for the new carrier,’ the entry form reads. ‘Help to find a name that is unique, aspirational, and cool – if selected, you could be the lucky winner of a year’s free travel on the airline valued at R480 000.’ The first flights will be between OR Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International Airport.
