New interactive map shows you which countries have travel restrictions

Posted on 9 December 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the joy of travelling into one of the most stressful processes imaginable. Not only do travellers have to worry about their own personal health, but they also need to take into consideration potential travel restrictions and budget for compulsory COVID-19 tests before they even set foot on a plane.

New interactive map shows you which countries have travel restrictions

To help make the process of travelling in 2020 easier, Skyscanner has created an interactive map that shows which countries are restricting visitors, and which countries are allowing travellers.

The map splits the different countries up into four different categories. This includes:

Green zones, which represent countries with low restrictions, meaning you are able to travel there without the need to go into quarantine when you arrive or return home.

Orange zones, which represent countries with moderate restrictions, meaning you can visit these countries if you meet certain entry regulations like providing a negative covid-19 test result, or are willing to go into a quarantine period when you arrive.

Red zones, which represent countries with major restrictions. These are countries where travel has either been suspended, or entry is only granted to its citizens.

Grey zones, which represent countries with unknown restrictions.

According to Skyscanner map, which was last updated on December 8, South Africans are able to visit 14 destinations that have low restrictions or have been placed in the green zone. These include the like of Turkey, Brazil, Cameroon, and Costa Rica, just to name a few. As is the case with any country, if you do show symptoms of the virus when you arrive, a quarantine period will be mandatory.
