Nepal reopens to vaccinated travellers Posted by David Henning on 11 October 2021 After 18 months of nearly zero tourist arrivals and revenue, Nepal, the home of the Himalayas, has reopened to vaccinated travellers who are no longer required to undergo a mandatory quarantine on arrival. If vaccinated travellers entering the country were vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival, they are eligible for a visa on arrival, a process that was halted in March 2020. Unvaccinated travellers will have to obtain a visa from Nepalese embassies in their home countries before departure, as well as a 10-day quarantine in a government-approved hotel. When Mount Everest reopened in April, hundreds flocked to climb the world’s highest peak, leading to an overcrowding issue, which has since been addressed. The Nepalese government then issued no permits issued for hiking Everest, but there is a trickle of trekkers coming to Nepal under the stricter rules. There are already expedition base camps at various mountains such as Manaslu, Dhaulagiri and Kangchenjunga. all visitors, including fully vaccinated ones, will have to present a negative PCR or other test report done not longer than 72 hours before their flight, and bring a printout of the international arrival form available here to immigration for visa on arrival. Travellers from Zimbabwe and eSwatini will still require a visa before their arrival in Nepal.
