Namibia resumes SA flights, opens land borders Posted by Anita Froneman on 20 October 2020 Air Namibia will resume its flight services to and from South Africa on October 28. The Windhoek-Johannesburg route will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and the Windhoek-Cape Town, direct and via Walvis Bay, will operate on Fridays and Sundays. ‘Air Namibia has introduced flexible rebooking options for travellers who need to change their travel dates. All tickets purchased for travel up to 30 April 2020 will be offered one free change to a new travel date until 31 December 2020,’ the website states. Passengers may change their bookings on the website or email [email protected]. The country has also opened three land borders for leisure travel. The Katima Mulilo, Ariamsvlei and Noordoewer border posts, as well as the Walvis Bay harbour, is open subject to applicable health regulations, Namibia’s Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, Frans Kapofi announced. According to The Nambian, 420 people flew into the country during September after Namibia opened its borders for international travel. Of these, 294 were tourists, a welcome start to the process of reviving the country’s sunken tourism industry.
