Multi-million rand worth of abalone uncovered in Killarney Gardens Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 4 January 2023 A multi-million rand abalone bust in Killarney Gardens, Johannesburg took place on Monday, 2 January. During a search operation, a team of law enforcement agencies, including the Hawks, uncovered poached abalone with a multi-million rand street value in Killarney Gardens. They also discovered an illegal abalone drying facility. Zinzi Hani, Western Cape Hawks spokesperson, said ‘the team found 8,993 units 2475,91 weighing kg of wet abalone kept in plastic buckets.’ She also stated that they arrested four suspects between the ages of 24 and 39.
