Mango Airlines threatens SAA with legal action Posted by Taylah Strauss on 11 May 2022 Mango Airlines has threatened South African Airlines (SAA) with legal action if it does not pay around R310 million in overdue relief funding. READ: SAA must secure a private buyer for Mango airline, says business rescue According to Sipho Sono, Mango’s Business Rescue Practitioner (BRP), without the payment from the SAA, the sale of Mango is in jeopardy. Furthermore, he alleged that the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has paid a sum of R399 million to Mango, whereas SAA has only paid R89 million. ‘SAA has instead indicated that the DPE has imposed certain conditions to the balance of funds, which conditions, in the opinion of the BRP, are unjustified and do not find application in the approved Business Rescue plan (BR plan),’ said Sono. According to TravelNews, Sono wanted legal counsel to approach the court and demand that SAA pay the outstanding balance to Mango ‘unconditionally and without delay’.
