He said that ‘the man in a boat trying to row his way across his flooded backyard’ was allegedly from Widenham in Umkomaas. Bryan said that he had received the photo from his mother. When East Coast Radio contacted her, she explained that she had received the picture on her retirement village WhatsApp group. She said that she didn’t know what the man’s name was but that his ‘rowing’ had given everyone the giggles. The South African Weather Service issued a warning yesterday about possible flooding in KwaZulu-Natal due to heavy rains and extended its warning to include Gauteng, Free State and the North West province. Forecaster Edward Engelbrecht said, ‘We do have to watch out for heavy rainfalls on Tuesday up to Wednesday. The heavy rainfall can also cause localised flooding, so we’re just advising residents to keep monitoring the situation.’ She cautioned people in these provinces to take the necessary precautions.
