Man rescues dog trapped in KwaZulu-Natal dam Posted by Anita Froneman on 22 January 2021 A brave hero rescued a dog trapped in a rapidly flowing stream overflowing from the Bell Park Dam in the Champagne Valley of the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal. Amos Ndlovu rose to the occasion when a dog fell over the edge of the dam’s causeway, which was gushing after recent heavy rains. Stella Stewart and her husband, James were out for a walk in the area when they came across the scene. Ndlovu volunteered to go into the water, and James quickly went home to fetch a rope. He held onto the rope tied to Ndlovu to keep him from being taken by the stream, while Stella filmed the action. ‘I wasn’t scared because I liked swimming the most when I was young. The water was flowing too fast, but my knowledge of water helped me. If you walk, you [walk] slowly,’ Ndlovu told The Witness. ‘If the dog is crying, it’s because he wants to live. I tried to help. Some people would say if he gets stuck and dies, he dies. I wanted to give him another chance. He wanted to live.’ The dog was brought to safety and reunited with its relieved owner.
