Lion seen roaming freely in Malalane Posted on 5 April 2020 Residents in Malalane, Mpumalanga have been warned to be on the lookout after a lion was seen roaming freely in the area. Reports of the lion were first received by personnel from an agricultural support business near Extension 6 in Malalane. The lion was seen in an open field near their building early in the morning on March 31. “Residents have also contacted me and confirmed that they have heard lions roar from much closer than usual, and from an unusual direction,” said Mel Preddy, chairperson of the Malalane Community Police Forum (CPF). The lion is reportedly a young male and is now roaming the area near Obaro in Malalane. Quick response measures have been put in place to deal with the animal once his whereabouts are confirmed, these include tranquilisers and transport. Locals are being asked to report any sightings by calling Malalane CPF urgently at 082-777-6076.
