KZN residents advised to practice caution due to flood warnings Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 5 January 2023 Flood warnings have been issued throughout Kwazulu Natal (KZN) for Thursday and Friday, 5 and 6 January. KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has ‘placed disaster management teams on high alert following the severe warning that was issued by the South African Weather Service, which indicates that large parts of KZN can expect disruptive rainfall which brings the probability of widespread flooding across large parts of the province.’ Thursday has a level 9 weather warning, while Friday has a level 5, and low-lying areas could be severely affected. The Joint Operations Committee (JOC), the newly activated specialised disaster management team, will meet daily to analyse the situation. Due to these flood warnings in KZN, Cogta urges ‘residents in the affected areas… to restrict unnecessary travelling that might place them in danger. ‘Parents must be vigilant and guard children’s so that they do not swim in rivers or go near large bodies of water.’ Picture: Getaway gallery Follow us on social media for more travel news, inspiration, and guides.
