KZN beaches continue to close due to poor water conditions

Heavy rains and muddy waters added more problems to KZN’s festive season tourism as the KwaZulu Natal Sharks Board decided to close all beaches in the area as of Tuesday, 13 December.

The decision affects all the beaches in the Umgababa and Isipingo areas due to their poor water quality conditions caused by the heavy rainfall.

In a statement which was released to the public by Ward 97, Councillor André Beetge said, ‘We are going to ban bathing with all the muddy waters around. From our early observation, even Amanzimtoti Main beach is dirty and it’s heading towards Pipeline beach, so it’s best we close Isipingo to Umgababa.’ According to reports, the conditions will be checked again on Wednesday, 14 December.

Only the Amanzimtoti Main and Pipeline beaches were still open for bathing after a high E.coli contamination resulted in the closing of the other beaches.
