For anyone wanting to learn more about the world of sharks but not comfortable enough to swim up to them underwater, the perfect experience now exists.

Cape Town-based marine biologist Justin Blake is inviting the curious to join him virtually as he goes about a day in the office, diving with these predators.

The best part is, all proceeds go to the RockHopper Fund which sustains the African Shark Conservation Lab.

‘Through a selection of photo’s and video’s this live online experience will take you on an adventure on and under the ocean to tag and track large sharks. Once we find them, we’ll take skin and blood samples and implant satellite, archival and acoustic tags,’ Blake writes on his Airbnb Experience profile.

‘Once we’ve discovered a thing or two about these animals, you’ll learn the logistics of filming them and have all of your burning questions answered (Are sharks aggressive? Do we really want MORE sharks in the ocean!?).

‘Most importantly, you’ll become part of our efforts to protect and restore marine ecosystems while understanding how you can have a positive influence on the ocean and world around you.’

Blake’s experience is one of the most popular activities on the online platform, and one of the Top 10 Airbnb Online Experiences globally, according to Business Insider. To date, he has raised over R150,000 for shark conservation.

Experiences start form R300 per person, and Blake hosts up to 100 guests per dive session via Zoom. Kids sessions and private sessions are also available.
