The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are quickly approaching, and a Japanese airline is hoping to encourage foreign visitors to explore more of what the country has to offer by giving away 50 000 free round-trip dometic tickets.

The Summer 2020 Olympics is expected to bring in huge tourist numbers for Tokyo, Japan as fans from all over the world descend to see the best athletes compete for gold. Japan Airlines (JAL) plans to encourage these non-Japanese visitors to travel across the country with free domestic flights that connect to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, as well as Osaka’s Itami and Kansai airports.

The ‘Win a Trip with JAL’ campaign has been designed to encourage visitors to experience regional attractions.

Applications for the free tickets will open in February. Passengers have the option of flying for free to a select four local destinations outside of Tokyo. To enter, you must pick one. However, the twist is that you’ll only find out where you are going days after you apply.

“When you apply, JAL will show you four possible destinations,” JAL explains on their website.”Then we tell you which one you’ll go to within 3 days of your application. Embark on a thrilling journey like no other and see what discoveries await at your mystery destination!”

The travelling times are valid between July 1 and September 30, 2020. Groups of up to four may enter together, and may choose from three or five departure/arrival time slots. There is a max of 50 000 passengers, but with round-trip flights that makes 100 000 seats that will be filled.

The catch? You need to be a JAL Mileage Bank frequent flyer member registered outside of Japan to be valid.
