India’s airport goes green with electric vehicles Posted by Ilhaam Hoosain on 7 June 2022 The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India is making changes under the Green Transportation Programme. They will introduce electric vehicles (EVs) on their airside in stages, authorities announced on World Environmental Day. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar says,’DIAL has set a target to make Delhi Airport a Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport by 2030, and is continuously working to achieve this goal.’ IOL reports that they will launch 62 RVs for its airside operations. This transition will help reduce almost 1 000 tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. According to DIAL, they will introduce these green vehicles within three to four months. ‘The adoption of electric vehicles for managing airport operations is a step forward. It is a first-of-its-kind initiative by any Indian airport to ensure a clean transportation environment,’ Jaipuriar adds. ‘DIAL is also planning to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources. This will ensure that the electricity used for the charging of these vehicles is also emission-free.’ Picture: Unsplash ALSO READ Airline asks South Africans to fill in Afrikaans test to prove nationality Related Posts Cape Town’s sustainability: Leading the way in environmental initiatives 1 June 2023 As National Environmental Month commences in South Africa, Cape Town stands proudly at the forefront... read more Kapama to host Safari Guide of the Year Awards 2023 1 June 2023 Kapama Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit will host this year’s Safari Guide of the Year... read more Blood Lions relaunches for public viewing on YouTube 1 June 2023 Award-winning documentary feature film Blood Lions has been relaunched on YouTube for public viewing, creating... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
