Hotels and game reserves to reopen from Level 3 Posted on 30 May 2020 Minister of tourism Kubayi-Ngubane addressed the nation today [30 May] on the new regulations regarding the travel and tourism industry in South Africa. Travel agents, tourism information centres, tour guides and those training in the profession will be permitted to return to work when the nation enters Level 3 of the lockdown on Monday, 1 June. Business offering accommodation such as B&Bs and hotels are allowed to accept customers who are travelling for business purposes only. Offering accommodation for leisure purpose will not be permitted under Level 3. Private and public game farms will also be allowed to reopen for game drives, however, group tours will remain banned. Ngubane also reiterated the fact that under level three restaurants will be opened for both pickups and deliveries. Individual hiking will also be allowed to take place under Level 3 regulations, but group hikes will remain banned. Hunting will be allowed during Level 3 of the nationwide lockdown. Ngubane confirmed during the address that her department had set aside R30 million in funds to provide relief to tour guides for the next two-to-three months, under the conditions that they’re registered with the relevant bodies and are either independent contractors or freelancers.
