Posted on 31 January 2019

Hong Kong’s Avenue of the Stars, was its most popular tourist attraction before it closed for rennovation in 2015. After years of revamping it officially reopened on 31 January 2019 as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations. The 457-meter waterfront avenue forms part of teh Tsim Sha Tsui promenade and offers spectacular views across Victoria Harbour from Kowloon.

The original promenade was opened in 1982 and then rebranded as the Avenue of Stars in 2004, with a cinematic concept similar to LA’s Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The redesign was headed up by landscape architect, James Corner in conjunction with the city’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department and New World Development and includes ‘more than a hundred newly designed celebrity handprints’ which are set within wooden handrails. Beneath the handprints are the stars’ biographies and selected movie clips can be viewed by scanning the QR codes with your smartphone.
