FAA uncovers reason behind why American flights had to be grounded Posted by Jordyn Johnson on 20 January 2023 The Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) has confirmed that a contractor accidentally deleted important files which caused a computer outage last week, and resulted in all flights across the US being grounded. READ: FAA grounds all domestic US flights due to computer outage The FAA said that it has ‘determined that contract personnel unintentionally deleted files while working’ on their database. They have ‘found no evidence of a cyber-attack or malicious intent,’ however, they are ‘continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the outage.’ Picture: Unsplash The BBC reported that ‘Washington DC lawmakers wrote to the FAA to say that the outage was completely unacceptable and demanding to know how it would be avoided in the future.’ The FAA ‘made the necessary repairs to the system and has taken steps to make (their) system more resilient.’ They plan to hold a virtual meeting on Friday, 20 January, with the lawmakers to discuss their concerns.
