Experience Puerto Rico at home this weekend Posted by Anita Froneman on 27 March 2020 As the country is settling in and people rearranging their lives in line with the nationwide lockdown, travellers and outdoor lovers are a bit stumped on how to get their fix. Fear not! In the digital age, even though it’s not quite the real deal, there are many ways to have awesome experiences in the meantime during lockdown. Discover Puerto Rico is bringing the best of this island nation right into your home. ‘Dance salsa, make cocktails and cook authentic Puerto Rican cuisine this Friday through Sunday, March 27-29, 2020 to extend the joyful spirit of Puerto Rico’s culture,’ the tourism marketing agency said in a statement. ‘We take great responsibility in helping stop the spread of COVID-19, so we’re not encouraging travellers to visit us right now as everyone needs to stay safe in their homes. Instead, we want to extend an important part of our culture – our salsa music and dancing, our mixology and our delicious cuisine – to uplift people during these challenging times. We encourage travellers to daydream about our Island now and consider a visit later, when the time is right. In the meantime, we’re excited to join them in their living rooms for this virtual getaway,’ said Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico. Unfortunately for virtual travellers, the 6-hour time difference will result in having to stay up at unusual hours or set an alarm to attend these events live, but you can always watch it later as the video streams should remain on the various channels used. Here’s what to look forward to: Salsa Lesson at 2 am CAT on 28 March Cocktail Making at 1 am CAT on 29 March Puerto Rican Cooking Class at 1 am CAT on 30 March To see where to join each of these classes (including Zoom and Instagram Live), view here. Luxury holiday accommodation, Six Senses, is helping people to maintain their mental and physical health during the time of isolation many countries face. The group has hotels, wellness resorts and spas across Asia and Europe, as well as some countries in the Middle East and Africa. The programme, called At Home With Six Senses, includes helpful articles, video tutorials, recipes, meditation sessions and workouts on their site and social media channels. Visitors to the site can select a category of choice: Mindfulness, Eat, Sleep, Spa, Move and Grow. ‘Mindfulness cultivates our ability to live in the present, to become more aware, to listen better and to appreciate what we have in life thanks to paying more attention,’ they say on their website. ‘It’s like having a coach who helps you foster a healthier relationship with your feelings and thoughts no matter what comes your way.’ Also read: 19 Ways to experience virtual Dubai Also read: Italian nonna offers virtual pasta-making classes Image: Instagram/DiscoverPuertoRico Related Posts 11 alcohol-free drinks for the sober curious 26 May 2023 Ocsober and Dry January are all good and well, but how about a permanent shift... read more Show me the Honey: Beekeeping in KwaZulu Natal 15 May 2023 While Durban prepares for the buzz around its annual Durban July race, there’s another buzz... read more Mushroom foraging: 5 edible fungi in South Africa 4 May 2023 If you're keen for a trip and you're a fun guy (get it?), then mushroom... read more PREV ARTICLE NEXT ARTICLE
