English pub takes in those stranded due to heavy snowfall Posted by David Henning on 13 December 2022 The Bear Inn, a pub in England’s East Sussex threw open its doors to those stranded due to the heavy snowfall, providing hot drinks, fires and refuge. The UK received heavy snowfall with cancelled flights, suspended train services and treacherous road conditions. ‘We realised everyone needed to be safe, just somewhere warm with hot drinks. I called the owner of the pub and explained the situation, and he said do what you’ve got to do – he was more than happy to have people over to stay safe,’ said Pauline Wilson, the bartender on duty at the Bear Inn. ‘It is all quite biblical’ Axelxandra Loske, one of the guests who took refuge in the pub, posted on social media. ‘Stranded and snowed in near Burwash since 5 pm, and we all got kicked out of the first pub. A 2-mile trek through the snow to The Bear Inn, which has taken in dozens of people and is staying open all night. Hot drinks, log fires, mattresses for children. Human kindness.’ Snow and ice warnings still remain in place for much of the UK until Thursday but thankfully Wilson that she would ‘definitely do it again if necessary’.
