Roads, shopping centres, and vehicles have been damaged due to the severity of the storm, reports SA People. Empangeni’s Game Store and Sanlam Centre were among some of the stores that experienced serious damage. Drivers needed to be careful as trees were uprooted and fall across roads, as well as debris that blew onto the streets. A truck driver said the storm was massive ‘with very strong winds and lightning.’ One local said that the roads were ‘completely awash, and trucks, cars, and buses’ sprayed rainwater in waves. He said that ‘cars drove at a maximum speed of 30 kph.’ Social media users posted footage and images of the freak storm, many of which have been shared to Storm Report. One such user said it was ‘one hell of a storm.’ He continued to say that his heart goes out to the people of Empangeni with the ‘crazy tornado-like wind with hail.’ ‘The Mayor and all political parties need to pull together to help this area hit so bad.’ See the footage below: This was Empangeni game this afternoon after a massive storm! pic.twitter.com/H0jnHTEBNE — Storm Report SA (@StormReportSA1) April 3, 2023 ⚠️⚠️⚠️ We have received this from multiple sources.
