Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lights up with SA flag Posted by Anita Froneman on 27 April 2020 Today, 27 April marks Freedom Day in South Africa, commemorating the first post-apartheid elections held on this day in 1994. As a nation, we are immeasurably proud of how far we’ve come and are excited when other nations celebrate with us. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the tallest structure in the world at 829,8 metres high and tipped a hat to South Africa by lighting up the skyscraper with the South African national flag tonight. Many took to Facebook to showcase the splendid display. Ruan Roberts captioned his photo: ‘To see something like this is special if you’re far from home. The SA flag was on the Burj Khalifa in Dubai just now.’ Another user, Thsonono Buyeye Mdjento posted a video: Thank you, Dubai and happy Freedom Day, South Africa!
